A full‑time (1.0 FTE), permanent appointment at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Professorial level, with clear pathways for academic advancement, leadership and career development, located at the Akoranga Campus on Auckland’s North Shore.

The physiotherapy programme is in the School of Allied Health at AUT, which is a national leader in health education and clinical innovation, with programmes in occupational therapy, podiatry and postgraduate rehabilitation.
The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
We have a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity for a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer/ AP/ Professor to make a significant impact and develop their career in teaching, research and service.
We are open to expertise across areas relevant to our cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, and are particularly interested in applicants who can contribute to our teaching and research in:
- Acute and chronic cardiorespiratory conditions
- Critical care and acute care practice
- Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
- Chronic cardiorespiratory conditions
- Integrated, inter‑professional models of medical and surgical care and service delivery
You will have demonstrated leadership experience, with a willingness to take on future substantial leadership roles as opportunities arise. Senior academics also provide mentorship to colleagues in both research and teaching.
We embrace practice-led, research-informed approaches to teaching. Your contributions to programme and course development will support our continuous-improvement focus. You will teach across programmes as assigned by the Head of Department and be comfortable using digital resources to enhance learning. You will actively publish in your field of expertise. We offer an excellent research environment with access to contestable research funds and guidance from senior scholars. It is also expected that over time, the successful candidate will seek and attract external research funding, engage with government, business, professional bodies and the community, and contribute to School/Faculty service activities.

Criteria: (for Career-path Lecturers/Senior Lecturers)
- Qualification:
- A PhD or nearing completion in a field related to physiotherapy.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
- A current Annual Practising Certificate (or eligibility for an Annual Practising Certificate)
- Clinical expertise in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
- Teaching:
- An early career academic will ideally have at least some previous teaching experience.
- More experienced candidates will have previous lecturing experience, evidence of course/programme or curriculum development and preferably experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students.
- Research:
- An early-career academic will have the basis of a solid research pipeline.
- More experienced candidates will already have a more established research profile and a proven research track record with quality publications and ideally success in external funding bids.
- Evidence of proactively pursuing external research income is desirable. (Lecturers)
- Evidence of securing or contributing to external research income is desirable. (Senior Lecturers)

Criteria: (for Associate Professors/Professors)
- Qualification:
- A PhD in a field related to physiotherapy.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand
- A current Annual Practising Certificate (or eligibility for an Annual Practising Certificate)
- Clinical expertise in cardiorespiratory physiotherapy
- Teaching and Learning:
- Significant undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing experience in undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy (including course design, preparation and delivery of lectures, practical sessions, tutorials as well as paper coordination).
- Ability to contribute to the growth and review of an innovative curriculum and development of high-quality course content, including integration of emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to attract postgraduate students and a track record of supervising postgraduate students to completion.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Significant experience leading and driving research initiatives in a field related to physiotherapy, with a strong track record of research outputs, including publications. Experience with successful external research grant applications if appropriate to your field.
- Proven experience establishing and nurturing collaborative relationships with peers in related fields, both within the University and across external academic institutions, industry and professional bodies.
- Appointments to editorial review boards of reputable journals, editorship/guest editorship experience and/or conference track chairing.
- Evidence of securing external research income is desirable.
- Citizenship and Service:
- A proven record of academic leadership and service.
- Experience engaging with external community members, industries, government, professional bodies or other stakeholders to disseminate research and create research opportunities.
- Experience in engaging with media and translating research to wider audiences.
