The School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join our team teaching at the School of International Education, HEBUT, China, and spending time between semesters at Massey University's Manawatū campus in Palmerston North. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role

A relevant PhD and demonstrated teaching and research practice are required for this role.

The purpose of this role is to provide teaching and research input into the Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information Technology (CSIT) disciplines, particularly undergraduate and postgraduate teaching for an ongoing collaborative programme between the School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences at Massey University and the School of International Education at Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT), China.

The role will be based primarily at one of the HEBUT campuses in China. You will be expected to be present at the HEBUT campus during teaching semesters. Up to four months of the year may be spent at Massey's Manawatū campus in Palmerston North, New Zealand (July - August and mid-December - February).

The language of instruction will be English.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and present lectures, tutorials, and other classes for undergraduate and postgraduate students in programmes offered or contributed to by the School of Mathematics and Computational Sciences.
  • Develop curricula for courses in CSIT as required and directed by the Group Leader, including for distance education and online learning if required.
  • Utilise, introduce, and develop modern teaching methods, including digital tools, to enhance students' learning experiences and outcomes.
  • Assist in supervising professional projects or research activities of postgraduate students.
  • Collaborate with staff in other academic units to ensure CSIT service courses remain relevant and of high quality.
  • Undertake an active and viable personal research programme or participate in team-based research.
  • Collaborate with Massey researchers working in other subject areas.
  • Publish scholarly work in academic journals, books, and other appropriate outlets.
  • Present research at national and international conferences.
  • Seek both internal and external funding for research.

Mōu - About you

You will have a PhD relevant to computer science or a related field, along with proven ability to teach international students at university level. You will also have previous experience delivering courses at university level.

You will ideally have experience in research and publication of scholarly articles and experience teaching at postgraduate level.

You will be required to enter into a supplementary contract relating to provisions made by the University to enable you to carry out your duties in China.

To be appointable to this role you must be eligible (or currently have the legal right) to work without restriction in both New Zealand and China. More information about this can be provided on request.

The salary will depend on experience and will be in the range of $86,113 - $152,711 NZD, paid into a New Zealand bank account.
