Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Animal Genetics and Breeding
About the role - Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
The School of Agriculture and Environment, Massey University, is seeking applicants for a position in the Animal Science group as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Animal Genetics and Breeding.
The purpose of this position is to provide learning and qualification outcomes for Massey students in Animal and Agricultural Science and to contribute to the scholarly outputs of the University through undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the supervision of postgraduate students in animal genetics and breeding.
The role also requires the development of an active research programme, engagement in the successful pursuit of external research funding, and interaction with industry.
This is a full-time, permanent position based on the Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.
About you - Mōu
A PhD in Animal Science, specifically in genetics or a related area, is essential.
The successful applicant will require the following experience for this role:
- Strong knowledge of animal genetics and breeding
- An extensive track record of academic and/or research activity in animal genetics and breeding
- Experience with applied animal genetics and breeding management would be beneficial
- Capability to conduct independent research
- Ability to conduct genetic analysis of animal species to identify genetic variation and hereditary traits
- A track record of applying statistical methods to interpret biological data related to genetic traits, with advanced statistical capability being a strength
- Capability in molecular biology and/or genomics, including the use of modern genetic tools such as gene sequencing and genetic mapping to identify genetic markers
- Experience teaching university students or supporting academic staff to deliver teaching
- Experience using electronic and online technologies in blended and distance teaching delivery
- Experience using innovative teaching and assessment methods in undergraduate teaching would be beneficial
- A practical understanding of working within a teaching, research and extension environment
- A good understanding of New Zealand and global animal science and production systems
- An excellent background in research review, analysis and dissemination, including experience writing scientific papers
- Experience writing research grants and contracts

The salary for this position will depend on skills and experience but will be in the range of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer ($83,201 - $152,711).
