Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Plant Science | 2024-18062

Teaching, research and supervision role providing support for plant and pasture science with an emphasis on plant biostatistics.

Mō te tūka | The role

We are seeking an energetic and visionary teacher and researcher to advance opportunities in crop physiology, with expertise in arable, pastoral, or horticultural crop husbandry and breeding. Areas of focus include agronomy, crop water relations, quantitative genetics, and plant biostatistics.

This role is based in the Department of Agricultural Sciences, which is dedicated to supporting Aotearoa New Zealand's land-based industries through applied teaching and research in areas such as crop, pasture, and livestock production, environmental sustainability, and agricultural innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, research-informed teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Develop a robust research programme with funding success.
  • Supervise and mentor postgraduate students in research projects.
  • Conduct research and teaching practices that uphold Lincoln University's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Engage in service to the University, contributing to its wider academic and operational functions.
  • Build strong industry, government, and community relationships to enhance the discipline.
  • Contribute to extension and professional activities related to the field.

This is a permanent full-time role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln campus. 

Remuneration for this position is as follows:

  • Lecturer: Grade A6, $90,834 - $98,283
  • Senior Lecturer: Grade A7, $105,589 - $119,558

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent qualifications/experience).
  • Familiarity with temperate arable and pastoral farm systems.
  • A developing research profile, with publications and/or creative work.
  • Experience in tertiary-level teaching in plant science.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse students and staff.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and/or biometrics in plant science (preferred).
  • Proven ability to secure research funding (preferred).
  • Commitment to innovation in teaching and research (preferred).
  • Alignment with Manaakitaka and Lincoln University values.
