Job Description
We are currently seeking a lecturer/senior lecturer in psychology to join our dedicated and committed team at Bath Spa University.
About the Role
The psychology subject area at Bath Spa University is becoming known as a hub for applying psychology and we are looking for a new lecturer/senior lecturer to help us in our mission to use psychology to improve the lives of people in the local community. We are particularly keen to recruit someone who can contribute to these exciting new endeavours. The person we recruit will be able to work well with industry and educational partners while also able to bring their experiences into the classroom successfully. We are specifically recruiting someone who can contribute to counselling, counselling psychology, and/or wellbeing practice broadly and will have some established practice-based experience.
You will help design and deliver teaching content across a range of modules at Levels 4 to 6 in Psychology Programmes, as well as contributing to curriculum planning and development, and engaging in research or scholarly activity in Psychology. You will have the opportunity to develop new courses and help guide the focus of teaching and research in Psychology at Bath Spa University. You will also be engaging in relevant research and scholarly activity in support of the university’s research strategy, to inform and enhance curriculum design and to improve student experience. In addition, you will be supervising or mentoring colleagues with less experience and advising them on personal development.
About You
- A BPS accredited degree in Psychology or a PhD
- Recent, successful experience of university teaching in BPS-designated core areas of Psychology
- Excellent ICT skills including e-learning tools.
- A knowledge of counselling and/or counselling psychology, or wellbeing practice.
- Experience of teaching and/or leading undergraduate modules covering areas of Psychology which either complement and/or extend our current undergraduate module offering.
- Fellowship of the HEA
- A track record or demonstrable potential in Psychology research, professional practice and / or scholarship in line with career stage.
- Experience of working with educational partners

Additional information
Applicants with fewer than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8 FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to complete an approved Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education course during the first two years of employment.
Applicants with more than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8 FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to accredit their practice through the HEA fellowship application process during their 6-month probation period.
