Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Applications are invited for a position in structural engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. An appointment will be made at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant and Associate Professor in US-based systems) depending on the successful candidate’s relevant experience.
This is an exciting opportunity for exceptional early-career researchers to join our structural and earthquake engineering team in a strong and dynamic department. We are interested in candidates that either (i) further grow existing expertise in seismic engineering or (ii) expand on the expertise of current structural engineering academic faculty, including into the areas of: seismic design of timber structures; digital transformations in structural engineering; advancement and innovations in design of building systems and non-structural components; advanced manufacturing techniques, and multi-hazard resilience of structures
The successful applicant will contribute to teaching traditional core structural undergraduate courses and developing new courses at the postgraduate level. The successful applicant will develop a strong, externally-funded research programme and be expected to collaborate with other academics in the Department’s teaching and research activities, complementing the current research activities of the Department in structural engineering and likely engaging in inter-disciplinary collaborations with other groups in the Department and University more broadly. The appointee will be expected to develop links with and contribute to the wider engineering profession at local, national and international levels.
Mōu | Who You Are
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and have a demonstrated record of relevant published research in internationally recognised journals of the highest quality. The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching of core courses in structural engineering at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, delivering effective teaching methods that enable a wide range of learners to succeed.
The appointee will also demonstrate a background, where appropriate given their experience, in supervising undergraduate projects, Masters and Ph.D. students, an ability to collaborate with others in the University, and interest in contributing to Departmental, Faculty, and University activities. Industry experience as a practicing engineer will be an advantage.
Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With
