POSITION SUMMARY

The Lecturer is expected to contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the University, in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Specifically, the Lecturer is responsible for carrying out teaching activities within undergraduate, Masters and Graduate Diploma programs and for maintaining and advancing their scholarly, research and/or professional capabilities. The Lecturer is also expected to actively promote the program by establishing and maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic, industry and professional communities. The Lecturer is expected to work collaboratively and collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team, and update colleagues and students on developments in their subject area or specialisation. The Lecturer may be responsible for course coordination.

Key Accountabilities summary

• Undertake independent teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, including designing, conducting, and moderating assessment, implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback
• Undertake independent professional activities, scholarship and/or conduct high quality research activities appropriate to the profession or discipline including managing individual projects within timelines and budgets and ensuring compliance with quality and reporting requirements; publishing research results in high quality journals as lead or co-author; preparing and submitting external research funding applications; and supervising HDR candidates
• Contribute to the development of a research-based culture within the program through individual and collaborative research activities
• Manage course amendment processes and course-related policies, pursuant to the School, College and University procedures and in liaison with RMIT Melbourne
• Be a member of School and University committees or any other duties as required by the Head of Department, Head of School or Senior Program Manager.
• Integrate best practices in health and safety management into the structure, processes and culture
• Fulfil the requirements of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Academic Expectations and Development Framework of RMIT Vietnam
• Actively develop, lead and manage engagement with Industry, Government, Community and University partners to facilitate collaborative research and education initiatives

Key Selection Criteria

• PhD or equivalent relevant Doctoral qualification.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.
• Ability to undertake course coordination and development roles.
• Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.
• Established track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing program and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
• Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Recent and sustained performance regarding student outcomes, student experience and feedback; combined with experience and skill in a range of teaching settings.
• Ability to operate within own discipline and cross-disciplinary/multidisciplinary teams to achieve department and University strategic outcomes.
• Ability to work with external partners, industries, organisations and communities and can operate effectively to address complex issues or seek opportunities
• Ability to motivate, develop and inspire others through discipline leadership in the University environment
• Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, RMIT Values and RMIT Leadership Model.

Expected Research profile

To be considered for a lecturer position at RMIT Vietnam in The Business School, you will need to be able to meet the following research criteria.

• For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3 years (Early Career Academic), although there are no requirements you are expected to be research active.
• For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3- 5 years there are requirements of peer reviewed journal articles published within the previous five-year window,  you need to be active in relevant research areas.
• For candidates with a PhD awarded more than 5 years ago: you will be expected to demonstrate a minimum of 2 peer reviewed journal articles, of which must be ranked in Scimago or ABDC and preferably both in Q1/A ranking or equivalent, within the previous five-year window.

To be considered for a Senior Lecturer position and above, The Business School operates a research active points system. Points are earned across a spectrum of research within a prior three-year window. Candidates for higher level positions will be considered against these criteria for shortlisting.

All academic appointments at RMIT Vietnam must meet University and local regulatory requirements, including English proficiency, background checks, and (for international candidates) eligibility for a work permit.

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic) with a score of at least 7.0 with no competency less than 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
