What You Will Do

As a teaching and scholarship focussed Academic in Mathematical Sciences, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing student success, driving excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and associated research, and contributing to the School’s collegial and inclusive academic leadership. You will:

  • Deliver inspiring, research-informed teaching across the curriculum that empowers students to achieve their potential and develop critical, creative, and analytical skills.
  • Lead innovation in curriculum design and delivery
  • Undertake research in the SoTL in Mathematics and Statistics, with the opportunity to also pursue domain-specific research aligned with the Mathematical Sciences.
  • Apply for funding to enhance the School’s strengths in scholarship and research.
  • Supervise and mentor postgraduate students, supporting their academic growth and career aspirations.

Who You Are

You are an enthusiastic and collaborative academic who values inclusive teaching and research. You will bring:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on the Mathematical Sciences or a related field OR a PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics Education or a related field.
  • Experience in engaging, inclusive, and innovative learning and assessment practices.
  • A strong interest in the SoTL and a commitment to advancing research-informed teaching practices.
  • Evidence of a growing or established research portfolio in SoTL and/or Mathematical Sciences
  • Experience in mentoring, supervision, or academic leadership, with a collegial and supportive approach to working with others.
  • An understanding (or emerging understanding) of our commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and NZ’s unique bicultural heritage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse communities and cultures.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusivity, and encouraging women and underrepresented groups to thrive in STEM.

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $94,181 - $113,616; Senior Lecturer $119,586 - $135,630.

The position closes at midnight 23 November 2025 (NZ time).
