Job Summary
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Wisconsin-Madison welcomes applications for a position as a Lecturer for classes within the Spanish and Portuguese Department ranging from 100-300 level. These appointments are for the fall semester of the 2026-27 academic year starting August 17, 2026, and have the potential to be renewed for the spring semester. These positions have the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
This position can be full or part-time depending on the number of courses taught: 33.4%-100% FTE.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
- Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
- Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance

College of Letters & Science, Spanish & Portuguese
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers undergraduate Spanish and Portuguese majors and a certificate in Business Spanish. At the graduate level we offer MA and PhD degrees in Spanish and Portuguese with concentrations in literature, cultural studies, and linguistics.
Compensation
The minimum salary is $63,950 at 100% FTE for a full academic year. Actual salary will be prorated based on FTE and number of days worked.
Required Qualifications
- Must have 1-3 years of experience teaching first-semester Spanish or higher-level courses at UW-Madison or comparable institution.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with instructional and curriculum development.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Kaltura, or Google suite to create inbox/messaging, discussions, assignment feedback, course organization/navigation.
Education
- Master’s degree required; specialization in any or a combination of the following areas preferred: Spanish language, literature, cultural studies, and linguistics.
- PhD preferred.
