Lecturer & Teacher-Special Programs - Graduate School of Journalism
The School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley is accepting applications for qualified temporary, part-time instructors to teach during the academic year and in the Summer Minor program. As a professional school, it seeks practitioners with real-world experience in areas such as news writing and reporting, video news, audio news, multimedia storytelling, data journalism, and topical expertise including climate change, science, politics, business, race and inequality, and investigative reporting.
The School emphasizes inclusive curriculum and pedagogy to support the success of all students. Instructors will receive training on inclusive teaching practices.
Responsibilities: Teaching typically involves one day a week for two or three hours. Duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, attending meetings, advising students, preparing course materials, and maintaining a course website. Candidates may also be appointed as Teacher-Special Programs (TSP) for narrower subjects or assistance roles.
Salary Range: The full-time annual salary for Lecturer positions is $70,977 - $199,772. TSPs are paid at an hourly rate of $40 - $105 per hour. See the salary scale for details.
Qualifications: Basic: Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 10 years of professional journalism experience. Additional: Advanced degree, or Bachelor's degree plus five years of experience, or 10 years of experience. Preferred: Bachelor's degree and 10 years of professional journalism experience, with a record of achievement such as published work or awards. Teaching and mentorship experience is preferred.
Classes are expected to be held in-person at the UC Berkeley campus.
