These collaborations provide opportunities for academic engagement on a global scale and contribute to the internationalisation of our programmes.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Teaching Fellow in Professional Practice and Work-Based Learning to join the School of Engineering and Built Environment. Appointment will be made at either Lecturer or Teaching Fellow level depending on the experience and profile of the successful candidate. This role is pivotal in supporting students on Quantity Surveying and Construction Management professionally oriented undergraduate programmes, including Degree Apprenticeships, ensuring that academic learning is effectively integrated with workplace practice and aligned with the requirements of professional bodies and industry standards.

The successful candidate will lead and deliver modules focused on reflective practice, professional development, and competency-based learning, guiding students in producing portfolios and work-based projects mapped to PSRB frameworks and apprenticeship standards. Working closely with employers and their workplace mentors, you will facilitate tripartite meetings, support apprentices in achieving the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for End Point Assessment/Apprenticeship Assessment, and enhance the student experience through authentic, practice-driven learning.

This post also contributes to curriculum development, quality assurance, and the enhancement of experiential learning strategies, ensuring that both full-time and apprenticeship students gain a deep understanding of professionalism in the workplace. You will play a key role in strengthening LJMU’s commitment to employer engagement, graduate employability, and industry collaboration.

We welcome applicants with substantial professional experience in the built environment sector and a strong understanding of apprenticeship frameworks and work-based learning approaches. Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, RICS) is highly desirable. A PhD is not essential for candidates who can demonstrate significant industry expertise and a commitment to innovative teaching. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner-educator to shape the future of work-based education and contribute to the development of high-quality, professionally aligned programmes.

What we offer

This is a key moment to join a welcoming, ambitious, and research-informed university community that places students at the heart of everything we do. We value and invest in our staff, offering meaningful opportunities for professional development, scholarship support, and clear internal promotion routes.

As well as outstanding development support, we also offer:

  • A low contractual 35-hour week
  • Generous annual leave entitlement and Christmas period closure with the option to purchase additional annual leave
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Family friendly policies
  • Car and travel loan schemes
