About us
Founded in 1915, the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) is one of the UK's largest institutions for research and teaching on Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Baltic region and Russia. Our mission is to create in-depth knowledge of the SSEES region in comparative, transnational, and global contexts, and to promote and disseminate an understanding of our region to the wider world; to develop multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multi-method approaches to knowledge creation and to teaching; and to enhance the development of area studies at UCL and among the wider academic community. We offer undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes, both in our four core disciplines (Economics and Business; Politics and Sociology; Languages and Culture; and History) and in our interdisciplinary programmes (for example, our BA in History, Politics & Economics).
About the role
The postholder will specialise in the teaching and assessment of Economics and Business, with a focus on Eastern European countries. The successful candidate will contribute actively to the planning, development, delivery, and coordination of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. You will also support the broader academic community through administrative and management responsibilities, as guided and supported by the School Director. The position is available from 1 September 2025 and will be offered on a fixed-term basis for two years in the first instance, until 31 August 2027.
About you
You will have a PhD in Economics or a related field and bring strong subject knowledge in business economics, with a particular focus on Eastern European economies and policies. You’re an experienced and skilled educator with a track record of delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, and student support at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. To apply, please submit an academic CV, a cover letter that addresses the person specification outlined in the job description, and examples of recent research papers or publications.
