About us

UCL's ‘Higher Education Development & Support Institute’ (HEDS) brings together UCL Arena, which supports professional development of our staff who teach and support students' learning and UCL Careers Service.

About the role

The post holder will work within a team of academic (teaching) and professional services staff to support the development of education practice at UCL. The post holder will help in the support and development of education enhancement activity across UCL faculties.

The post holder will also be involved in delivering professional development and recognition activities, aimed at UCL staff who teach and/or support teaching and learning. This will include supporting the Arena fellowship programme for those who wish to gain recognition for their work, as well as workshops and/or courses that support educational development more broadly.

In addition, the successful candidate will participate in strategic initiatives and take ownership of projects to enhance the quality of education and the student experience at UCL more widely. Examples include but not limited to: degree course/programme leadership, UG/PGT research supervision, community engaged learning.

About you

Things you'll need for this job include:

  • Educated to Masters level (or equivalent)
  • Fellowship of AdvanceHE (Senior Fellowship of AdvanceHE)
  • Extensive experience of teaching in higher education (in any subject)
  • Experience of teaching, assessment, and feedback within HE, and an understanding of the opportunities and restrictions in developing inclusive and authentic assessments and delivering high quality feedback
  • Experience of identifying and responding effectively to developmental needs within departments and supporting senior colleagues (eg Heads of Department, Deans) on strategic approaches to usage of digital technologies, teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum enhancement, academic support and inclusive practice
  • Deep commitment to equity / inclusion. Knowledge and experience applying of Universal Design for Learning, and championing inclusive teaching and assessment practices
  • Experience of teaching and supporting international students within a HE setting
