TEACHING AND RESEARCH ROLE
Edith Cowan University
Are you ready to belong to a dynamic community where courage, creativity, and optimism are essential elements of our DNA? At ECU we’re inspired by the incredible achievements of Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament and a lifelong champion of education. Empowered by her legacy, we’re united in our vision to lead the sector in educational experience and expand our impact through world-class research.
Embrace an opportunity to become part of something extraordinary.
The School of Arts and Humanities
The School of Arts and Humanities is one of the largest at ECU with diverse disciplines arranged into three clusters: Creative Humanities; Psychology, Counselling and Criminology; and Social Sciences, Social Work and Youth Work. The school has more than 140 academic and professional staff operating across three campuses, as well as teaching offshore in Sri Lanka, and is a leader in online education. The diversity of the school is a strength, enabling interdisciplinary research, a sustainable financial platform, and many opportunities for collaborations with industry and community.
About the Opportunity
As part of the Creative Humanities team, you’ll help shape our innovative Visual Arts programs in our beautiful new, purpose-built studios, which extend our workspaces into the city itself. Our degrees not only immerse students in hands-on exploration across diverse techniques, materials and media, but actively engage diverse communities in what we do.
Based within the Art and Design academic group, you’ll work alongside talented colleagues across Visual Arts, Design, Creative Writing, Communication, Journalism, Media and Screen Production to contribute to a future-focused creative ecosystem. You’ll develop and lead original creative research, and actively engage with Perth’s rich arts and cultural sector, collaborating with festivals, galleries, cultural institutions and community partners, as well as ECU’s own Arts, Culture and Collections.
About you
To be considered for this position, you will require a PhD in Visual Arts or an aligned discipline, or be within 6 months of completing a PhD.
You will need to demonstrate, based on past achievement and potential for future development, that you can:
teach effectively using student-centred approaches that facilitate learning in a range of common visual arts techniques and media;
conduct high-quality creative research with public outcomes and impact;
forge partnerships with the arts sector and community to advance teaching and research;
develop and implement innovative teaching methods to suit studio and external spaces;
exercise leadership consistent with your level of appointment; and
work productively and positively with colleagues in the school and university.
It is desirable that you have:
skills to teach printmaking;
experience in working in research teams.
You will be expected to demonstrate personal attributes consistent with the University’s values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry, personal excellence, and courage.
