The School of Education is seeking new academic colleagues to join its forward-looking and highly committed team. Working in the fields of Education, Childhood and Family Studies, you will share our vision for developing programmes, scholarship and research that make a genuine difference to people's lives. We are particularly looking to enhance our existing strengths in Early Childhood, SENDI and Youth Work. Our ambition is to be increasingly inclusive, empowering and progressive. The posts involve a range of activities drawn from: delivering academic modules, preparing and delivering materials, engaging with and supporting students, marking and moderating work, student satisfaction and engaging in any other activities required for the successful delivery of modules, including supervising student research projects as appropriate, and student recruitment activity.

The School of Education is one of the largest academic units in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education, comprising the disciplinary areas of Education Studies and Teaching Studies. It has a range of programmes across foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research degrees. The School has distinctive research specialisms including in participatory research, social justice and community engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion.

The faculty is committed to supporting colleagues in building an academic career. The successful candidates will be expected to engage with this aspect of professional development by undertaking research and scholarly activities that contribute to the School of Education's research and knowledge exchange priorities, in addition to providing our students with outstanding learning opportunities.

The essential criteria detailed in the person specification is as follows:

  • A good degree in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of higher and/or relevant recent study
  • Ability to provide high quality learning and teaching opportunities and support for students effectively at undergraduate level.
  • Recent experience of teaching in Higher Education.
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of issues relating to the field of Education including work-based contexts.
  • An ability to communicate complex conceptual ideas to widely divergent audiences.
  • An awareness of issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, and how they impact the student experience.
  • A collegial and collaborative approach to working with students, colleagues and other partners.
  • A positive contribution to University activities and initiatives including open days, graduation ceremonies etc. and willingness to undertake administrative activities.
  • Working in an open and transparent way, providing information and communicating effectively with colleagues.
  • Continuous professional development.
