Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a continuing Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education. These roles contribute directly to the preparation of future teachers through our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes and are grounded in the Aotearoa New Zealand education context.

In this role, you will contribute to the faculty’s teaching, research, and service mission, with a strong focus on high-quality, research-informed teaching and engagement with the New Zealand Curriculum and contemporary education practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

Teaching and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate Initial Teacher Education programmes.

Designing and delivering high-quality, student-centred learning experiences informed by current educational research and practice.

Undertaking research or scholarship aligned with Teacher Education and contributing to the faculty’s research culture.

Publishing research outputs appropriate to career stage and discipline.

Supervising postgraduate students and supporting their academic and professional development (Senior Lecturer level, and as appropriate).

Contributing to programme development, review, and quality assurance processes.

Participating in Faculty, University, and sector service activities.

Supporting a collegial, inclusive, and collaborative academic environment.

Mōu | Who You Are

You will have expertise in one or multiple curriculum/education subjects across Primary and/or Secondary settings (e.g. STEM subjects such as Science, Pacific Education, Arts, Mathematics). All curriculum subjects or combinations of subjects will be considered, so applicants are strongly encouraged to showcase their expertise across the curriculum.

You will also bring:

A PhD in Education or a closely related discipline, or your subject discipline

Demonstrated experience or strong capability in Initial Teacher Education and/or school-based education Contexts (Primary and/or Secondary) in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Sound knowledge of the current New Zealand Educational landscape, including curriculum, schooling, policy and assessment.

Evidence of effective teaching practice in higher education or professional education settings.

An active or emerging research or scholarship agenda relevant to Teacher Education.

The ability and willingness to supervise postgraduate research students (or to develop this capability).

Strong communication skills and a student-focused, reflective teaching approach.

A willingness to work offshore if required.

A collaborative mindset and readiness to contribute positively to Faculty and University service.

Additional requirements:

Current teacher registration in Aotearoa New Zealand is preferred, or eligibility and the ability to obtain registration.

Demonstrated bicultural competence and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Competency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga is an advantage.

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $94,181 - $113,616; Senior Lecturer $119,586 - $135,630.
