Applications are invited for a permanent full-time Lectureship Type B in Business Information Systems (Cybersecurity) at University of Galway, Ireland

Founded in 1845, University of Galway is one of Ireland’s oldest and largest universities, with a vibrant community of over 19,700 students and 2,500 staff, and more than 135,000 alumni in over 178 countries. The University is ranked among the Top 275 globally (QS), #1 in Ireland and Top 50 worldwide in the 2024 THE Impact Rankings, and was awarded Sunday Times University of the Year in 2022. It is a research-led institution with global ambition and deep roots in the region and nationally.

This is an opportunity for a talented academic to join the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics as Lecturer (Type B) in Business Information Systems (Cybersecurity). The School is one of three within the College of Business, Public Policy and Law, and is AACSB, AMBA and EFMD programme accredited, a PRME member, and holds an Athena Swan Silver award for equality. Its mission is for the public good, with strategic priorities in research and impact, teaching and learning, external engagement, and internationalisation.

The Business Information Systems (BIS) Discipline is nationally and internationally recognised for excellence in teaching and research. It consistently ranks in the QS global top 150 for Information Systems and contributes to a suite of successful programmes including the BSc BIS, MSc IS Management, MSc Business Analytics, and MSc Cybersecurity Risk Management. Staff publish in leading journals such as Information Systems Research, Journal of the Association of Information Systems, and European Journal of Information Systems, and supervise a vibrant cohort of PhD students.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Business Information Systems or a related discipline, with expertise in Applied Cybersecurity, Databases, and Applied Analytics. They should have a peer-reviewed research portfolio appropriate to the grade of appointment, and a record of effective teaching and assessment across diverse learner groups. Experience in designing modules and delivering teaching in classroom, online, and blended formats is essential. Applicants should also demonstrate service contributions in higher education, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative approach aligned with the BIS Discipline.

Additional relevant experience includes a research plan aligned with the School’s priorities, supervision of student projects or dissertations, and involvement in externally funded research. Candidates may also demonstrate academic or professional networks, programme development experience, familiarity with international best practices in BIS education, and a formal qualification in Teaching and Learning.

The successful candidate will contribute to: the development of the BIS discipline; scholarship; research; teaching and assessment; and contribute to the intellectual life of the University and the wider community.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 (Irish Time) on 28th November 2025. It will not be possible to consider applications received after the closing date.

University of Galway values diversity, ensures equal opportunity, and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
