"Lectureship in Biology"

Description

The responsibilities of this position primarily consist of teaching Biology and Environmental Science courses. This position holds accountability for instruction, curricular development, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. Teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face classes at the Mount Pleasant and Harrison campuses, as well as dual credit classes in local schools, and online classes. Other responsibilities may include directing the activities of the Science Center (tutoring).

Examples of Duties

1. Develops and updates course syllabi.
2. Teaches assigned course content utilizing a variety of presentation methods.
3. Observes and assesses student learning competencies providing timely feedback to students.
4. Schedules office hours for assisting students.
5. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, including posting students' grades and attendance.
6. Communicates student assessment results to department faculty and administrators.
7. Participates in professional development opportunities, particularly to maintain current professional expertise in Biology.
8. Serves on shared governance and program related committees.
9. Adheres to divisional objectives, policies, procedures. Recommends changes to procedures as necessary to improve the efficacy of the program.
10. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
11. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education, Certification, Licensure:

• Master's degree, or higher, in Biology, BioChemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, or another Biology discipline is required.

Experience:

• Two years of teaching experience preferred; ideally at the community college level.
