LEO Lecturer I - PCAS
The Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a Lecturer I position to teach three course sections. About the Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences: The Program in Computing for the Arts and Sciences (PCAS) is an interdisciplinary program in computing education developed specifically to meet the wide range of needs of undergraduate students in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). PCAS is coordinating and expanding the teaching of computational methods and digital studies across the arts and sciences. We are working toward a future in which every LSA student feels confident in their abilities to design and employ computational methods and digital tools both effectively and critically.
About our COMPFOR classes: COMPFOR is short for COMPuting FOR. The COMPFOR classes prepare students to use computing in their studies in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. For this position, the instructor would teach two sections of COMPFOR 131, an introductory course on the Python language aimed at students pursuing natural science majors. The instructor would also teach an additional course, either a section of an existing COMPFOR class or a special topics section (to be determined) related to computational science.

Teach three classes in a studio-style format, each consisting of 90-minute combined lecture and lab sessions meeting twice per week. Hold office hours and supervise GSIs and/or undergraduate instructional assistants.
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in any field in the natural or social sciences with extensive background in computational science. Teaching experience at the college/university level is required. Applicants will be selected based upon demonstrated subject matter expertise, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and program needs. At least two years of experience teaching courses in computational sciences at college/university level is preferred.
