Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Enhance Cyber Security
About the Project
Cyber security is a critical issue in today's digital landscape, as more systems, services, and data are being transferred and stored online. Traditional methods of cyber defence, such as firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs), and signature-based detection have limitations in addressing the increasing sophistication of cyber-attacks. In particular, the rise of zero-day exploits, Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), and malware designed to evade detection techniques has made traditional security mechanisms less effective.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have the potential to revolutionise cyber security by providing automated systems that can learn from large datasets, detect anomalies, and adapt to evolving threats. AI-driven solutions are increasingly being deployed to augment human security operations by offering proactive and automated measures to detect, respond, and mitigate cyber risks in real-time.
This PhD project seeks to investigate novel AI methodologies and their applications in cybersecurity, with a focus on developing systems that are more adaptive, resilient, and capable of mitigating the ever-growing variety of cyber threats.
The project offers the candidate new opportunities to gain invaluable experience in the relevant areas such cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI and Machine Learning (ML). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic, effective and multi-disciplinary team.
