Library Assistant (Evening and Weekend) - 4 posts

About the role
We are looking for Evening and Weekend Library Assistants to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera. These buildings house Humanities collections in English, History, Classics, Philosophy, Theology and Reference as well as the History Faculty Library and the Bodleian's Main Enquiry Desk.

You will undertake a range of library duties including answering readers' and visitors' questions, issuing/returning items, invigilation, book replacing, supporting the book delivery process if necessary and ensuring safe evacuation of the reading rooms.

These are part-time, permanent posts. The working patterns available are:

  • Post 1 - 0.226 FTE – Fortnightly Saturday (9:45am – 6:15pm) and weekly Friday (5pm – 9:15pm)
  • Post 2 - 0.3425 FTE – Fortnightly Saturday (9:45am – 6:15pm) and weekly Monday and Wednesday (5pm – 9:15pm)
  • Post 3 - 0.3425 FTE – Fortnightly Saturday (9:45am – 6:15pm) and weekly Wednesday and Friday (5pm – 9:15pm)
  • Post 4 - 0.3425 FTE – Fortnightly Sunday (10.45am – 7.15pm) and weekly Tuesday and Friday (5pm – 9:15pm)

This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.

About You
You will be reliable and punctual, be able to undertake routine tasks with accuracy, possess good IT skills and have a strong customer service focus. You will have excellent communication skills.
