The Bodleian Education Library is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and customer-focused individual to join our team on Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri afternoons, 13:30-17:15.

About the role

The Bodleian Education Library provides key services to the Department of Education and the wider University, through the provision of books and papers (both in print and online) and by supporting readers in developing key skills, for example in finding scholarly papers for their study and research.

Your main responsibilities will be welcoming readers and other visitors to the Library, responding to enquiries and helping students make the most of the Library (for example, by assisting them in finding print and online library materials) and in the use of library services and facilities.

In addition, you will work with library materials, for example shelving books accurately and processing new books, journals and serials. You will also work with reading lists, checking stock against reading lists to ensure that we have sufficient copies of key works, scanning chapters and articles and using Oxford’s reading list management system, ORLO, to make readings lists available online.

This is a permanent, part-time post, working 15 hours per week. The post holder will be based in the Education Library on Norham Gardens, Oxford. This post is not suitable for remote working.

The role involves lifting, carrying and transporting books safely.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have experience in providing excellent customer service and completing tasks accurately to a high standard. You will be an excellent communicator with good IT skills and be able to lift, move and carry books. Punctuality and good teamwork are also essential.

How to apply

You will be required to upload your CV and the attached supporting evidence form as part of your online application. The supporting evidence form lists each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description – please explain how you meet each one. Applications submitted without a CV and supporting evidence form will not be considered.

Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (BST) on Wednesday 20 August can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 11 September 2025, in person.
