Job Summary

The Libraries at CU Boulder encourage applications for a Library Branches Stacks & Materials Coordinator! This position is in the Materials Management Unit of the Engaged Spaces Department. They are responsible for the stacks management of the Business, Earth Sciences & Map, Gemmill, and Music Library. They collaborate with the Branch Operations Managers at these locations to coordinate missing/long missing searches, stacks projects (including shifts, dusting, shelf-reading, stacks assessments, transfers, etc.). They work collaboratively across the Libraries to analyze the stacks spaces in BEscMGM libraries, design workflows, and implement projects to maintain, facilitate, and improve the engaging environment for our users.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Business, Earth Sciences & Map, Gemmill and Music Library Stacks & Shelving Coordination

  • Performs analysis of stacks areas based on the guidelines set forth by the Library of Congress shelving rules and determines tasks that need to be performed to maintain and improve the non-Norlin locations book stacks (Business, Earth Sciences & Map, Gemmill, and Music Library collections). Help carry out various projects as needed, focusing both on long and short term planning and goals. Prioritizes and works with the Branch Operations Managers to assign these projects to the unit's student assistants. If there is limited student help, the person must make independent decisions using judgment to determine the best course of action in order to meet or manage expectations. Project manage the missing/long missing procedure, in coordination with the Branch Operations Managers. Develop timelines and carry out weekly, monthly, and semester-long list creation and searches. Run and organize lists from FOLIO to manage materials flows and coordinate with the Branch Operations Manager to train students to carry out searches for items. Problem solving item labeling, preservation or cataloging issues, as they appear; includes analysis of item records in FOLIO and an expert knowledge of how the circulation functions work in the Libraries Services Platform. Write and revise processes and procedures to carry out the above projects, as to streamline for the future and allow for coordination and collaboration with other Libraries' units.

Collection Maintenance

  • Collaborates to design and implement the workflows for various projects to be performed in order to maintain the book stacks in non-Norlin locations, including transfer projects and shifting. Plan and lead projects to address the physical maintenance of collections - dusting, vacuuming, coordinating repairs and replacements for damaged shelving, coordinating collection shifting, updating call number signage, and conducting regular inventory and shelf reading projects.

Collaborate with Unit, Department, Division members and Other Partners

  • Create and maintain relationships with the Branch Operations Managers at each of the non-Norlin locations. This is crucial to carrying out materials projects. Actively participate in/contribute to unit, department, division, Libraries and other relevant meetings. Manage recommendations for improvements to stacks and materials maintenance as necessary. Stay up to date with changes to Libraries policies, procedures, etc. Collaborate closely with the Materials Management Unit to ensure materials and stacks management runs smoothly and is aligned across all Libraries locations.

Service Point Staffing

  • In order to fully support and understand the workings of the locations, this position will have a service point staffing expectation. They will get to participate in supporting services for each location outside of Norlin in some capacity.

Professional Development and Service

  • Serve as a resource for the University Libraries on topics such as materials management and stacks organization/maintenance. Pursues development opportunities related to standard processes for materials management and workflows, as well as student supervision. Serves on Libraries-wide groups and task forces, as appropriate. Attends professional webinars or other educational sessions.

What We Can Offer

$52,000 - $56,000. A small relocation stipend may be available within Libraries guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • Three years of professional experience working with library materials and/or with library system circulation modules.
  • A Master's of Library and Information Science can substitute for two years of experience.

  • Capable of managing competing demands and flexibly responding to challenges.
  • Able to perform duties independently through applying library science principles and job-acquired skills to solve complex problems and offer user-centered solutions.
