This position performs its duties primarily on the Kentfield Campus with occasional travel to the IVC Campus in Novato, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, performs complex technical duties in library service areas. Main duties include coordination of a major library service area (e.g. circulation, technical services); training and directing classified, temporary employees, and serving as a collegial member of library staff. Assignment may include day or evening hours, location is primarily one campus but may require shifts at both district libraries.

Essential Functions

  • Provides high level support and oversight in a technical or public service area; may act as a back-up in a different area of the library.
  • Assists students, staff, and community members by taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel. Explains district policies and procedures to library patrons. Resolves patron issues and complaints or refers to appropriate personnel.
  • Develops and monitors the bibliographic records for all print, media, and digital collections for the district; resolves discrepancies and directs the deletion of library records for discarded library materials.
  • Directs the circulation and inventory of library materials for the district; coordinates annual collection inventories; prepares and distributes notices for overdue library materials and unresolved library charges; reconciles the integrated library system with student account files to ensure accurate assessment and collection of library charges and fines.
  • Creates detailed financial, bibliographic, and statistical reports for the library, campus community, public and governmental agencies. Develops detailed procedural manuals.
  • Maintains budget records and controls expenditures for library book budget, including other related departmental campus budgets; verifies budget codes and availability of funds.
  • Initiates ordering, receiving, and invoicing of library materials including books, periodicals, electronic resources, equipment, and supplies for the district. Reconciles shipment, invoice and statement discrepancies and resolves problems and issues.
  • Acts as circulation and/or technical services liaison with MARINet consortium; initiates and participates in working group discussions online and at in-person meetings. Communicates relevant College of Marin library information to partner libraries (e.g. closure dates, changes in policies or procedures, and system outages).
  • Provides direct support to projects that use or interact with shared integrated library system including patron load updates, system updates, and new modules. Troubleshoots system issues and contact MARINet for technical support.
  • Supports the integration of new technologies and methodologies for library services, applications, and system; participates in the testing and evaluation of emerging technologies.
  • Maintains and updates library web-based content including library web pages and graphics as directed. Designs or creates library promotional/informational materials as directed.
  • Oversees and trains temporary employees to assist them in performing their functions. Acts as a lead worker for Library Technician I and II.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Consult with library director, librarians, and other library technicians in order to support student learning.

Requirements & Desirables

REQUIREMENTS
  1. Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
  2. Any combination equivalent to: five years increasingly responsible experience working in a library or another closely related environment; and
  3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree and/or education in the area of library science

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF: Department operations and activities including library policies, practices, and procedures at a comprehensive level; Integrated library system management; Customer service and interpersonal skills demonstrating courtesy, tact, and patience; Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; Website editing; Budget maintenance; Library of Congress cataloging methods and procedures

SKILLS TO: Prepare and maintain accurate records; Implement changes to the integrated library system; Operate standard office equipment; Utilize pertinent software applications; Perform website editing

ABILITY TO: Adapt to changing priorities; Gather, collate, and/or analyze data of different types and/or purposes; Remain current with changes in technology at a level consistent with the level of responsibility; Remain flexible while working with others under a wide variety of circumstances and work as part of a team; Problem solve, analyze issues, create plans of action, and reach solutions; with data if it is moderate; and with equipment if it is limited; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Read a variety of manuals; Write documents following prescribed formats; Present information before groups; Understand complex multiple step instructions; Schedule a number of activities

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following: 1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States. 2. Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance. 3. California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that they are free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter. 4. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY

Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA) Chapter 196 and are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.

SALARY INFORMATION

FLSA Status: Non-exempt; Salary Range: CSEA 117; Starting Salary Range: $35.63 - $39.30 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

WORK SCHEDULE

Campus: Kentfield (primary) & Indian Valley Campus (IVC) in Novato as needed; Full-time Equivalent: 1.0 - Full-time; Months per Year: 12; Work Days/Hours: Tuesday - Saturday; 7.5 Hours per Day; 37.5 Hours per Week

THE BENEFITS OF EMPLOYMENT WITH COLLEGE OF MARIN

CSEA Full-time Employees: Medical Insurance: The District offers six plan options through Kaiser and Blue Shield. Effective 10/01/2025, the District's contributions for medical insurance coverage are as follows: Employee-only: $1,700/month; Employee plus one dependent: $2,400/month; Employee plus two or more dependents: $2,900/month. Dental and Vision Insurance - Delta Dental and VSP vision plans for employee and dependents, with no cost to employees; Vacation Leave - 90 hours of accrual annually, with additional accrual after 3, 10, and 14 years of service; Paid Holidays - 17 paid holidays annually, which includes a paid winter holiday break at the end of December; Sick Leave - 7.5 hours per month, 90 hours per year; Retirement through CalPERS - MCCD contributes 27.05% of employee's creditable earnings to CalPERS on a monthly basis (2024/2025).
