This is a clinical position performing patient care duties for patients needing hand therapy treatment. And teaching to medical students, resident and allied health professionals.
This position is ON SITE only
80% Clinical
- A. Reviews charts and recommends and/or provides appropriate rehabilitative intervention.
- B. Reviews prescription and schedules evaluations, treatment, and/or splint.
- C. Provides prompt attention to referrals received, using resources in an efficient and productive manner.
- D. Participates in the review of treatment plans, modalities, and splints to assure appropriateness to achievement of identified goals.
- E. Monitors patient progress between physician visits; notifies physician when situation warrants the physician's attention.
- F. Monitors patient progress and suggests modification of treatment plan as appropriate.
- G. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the client in their own environment.
- H. Assures termination of services when benefits have been optimally achieved.
- I. Assures results of client evaluation, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services have been adequately documented.
5% Administration
- A. Evaluates and recommends new technology applications to assure state-of-the-art hand therapy procedures and techniques.
- B. Assists in devising and updating time-oriented protocols of upper extremity rehabilitation in collaboration with physicians according to specific injuries treated.
- C. Assists in determining and monitoring documentation system for patient treatment in association with M.D. and requirements of the institute.
- D. Assists in planning and directing the receipt, storage, maintenance and distribution of department supplies and equipment.
- E. Assists in ensuring that a professional environment is maintained with regard to therapist/client relationships and the physical working area of clinic.
- F. Attends professional development meetings.
- G. Assists in developing and implementing a clinical field work program for occupational therapy students.
5% Teaching
- A. Participates in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
- B. Participates directly in the Plastic Surgery residency training and other appropriate residency training.
- C. Participates in continuing education programs in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.
- D. Provides a role model as a teacher in Occupational therapy.
5% Research
- A. Promotes research and scholarly activity within the Division by example and encouragement and by participation in research endeavors.
- B. Provides a role model as an investigator and medical writer.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties described above.
Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer
- Licensure or Eligibility for licensure as a registered occupational therapist by the State of Illinois under the condition that they have been issued a letter of authorization from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) allowing them to practice under supervision
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's)
- Maintain Occupational Therapist licensure in accordance with requirements set forth by Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) (e.g. CEUs). Provide supervisor with documentation with each renewal. If the incumbent does not provide a copy of the licensure to their supervisor prior to license expiration date, the incumbent will be unable to work as an Occupational Therapist until their license is renewed. The incumbent must notify supervisor of any change in status of license. Working with an expired/revoked license, or not notifying the supervisor of status change in licensure will result in disciplinary action and/or termination of employment of the incumbent.
- Maintain current CPR certification. Provide supervisor with documentation with each renewal.
- Certified as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification in accordance with requirements set forth by Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) within 5 years of original start date. Maintain current certification. Provide supervisor with documentation with each renewal. If the incumbent does not provide a copy of the certification to their supervisor prior to certification expiration date, the incumbent will be unable to work as an Occupational Therapist (Hand Therapist) until their certification is renewed. The incumbent must notify supervisor of any change in status of certification. Working with an expired/revoked certification, or not notifying the supervisor of status change in licensure will result in disciplinary action and/or termination of employment of the incumbent.
- Knowledge of techniques and procedures used in occupational therapy
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treating of behavioral and affective disorders
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
- Skill monitoring/assessing the performance of patients to make improvements or take corrective action
- Ability to plan and implement therapy
- Ability to communicate effectively in the preparation of case reports
- Ability to be socially perceptive, being aware of other's reactions and understanding why they react as they do
- Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
Preferred Minimum Qualification/Condition of Employment
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification in accordance with requirements set forth by Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC), or exam eligible, or intends to pursue Certified Hand Therapist Certification once eligible, within 5 years.
