Limited Term Assistant Professor in Painting Practices
Position Overview
The Department of Visual Arts at Western University invites applications for one full-time position in painting practices. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Limited Term appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor for a term of 2 years at a 50% reduced workload. Anticipated start date: January 1st, 2027, or as negotiated. This is an existing vacancy.
Qualifications
PhD or MFA required. Active exhibition record and contributions to field of practice. Evidence of effectiveness in teaching, innovative pedagogy, curriculum development, mentorship, and service. Painting practice informed by strong artistic and technical foundations, including traditional, experimental, or expanded approaches engaging contemporary art theory and critical discourse. Effective communication, interpersonal skills, ability to contribute to inclusive learning environment. Collaborative, collegial, community-minded. Regular on-campus presence required.
Responsibilities
2-2 teaching load (undergraduate and graduate core/optional courses), mentoring MFA/PhD students, participation in graduate examinations, service to Department, University, and profession.

Compensation
$48,000 to $60,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
