The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG)
CNAG is a world-leading genomics research institute located in Barcelona. With state-of-the-art genomic analysis capabilities, CNAG supports national and international researchers, as well as clinicians, in pursuing cutting-edge research and clinical applications.
CNAG carries out large-scale genomic projects involving DNA and RNA analysis to improve quality of life, in collaboration with the Spanish, European and international research communities. CNAG is one of the largest genome analysis centres in Europe, equipped with Illumina, Pacific Biosciences and Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencing platforms, state-of-the-art single-cell technologies, and an extensive computing infrastructure.
CNAG's operations are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 and accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025, ensuring the delivery of standardised, high-quality data for research and clinical applications.
CNAG has over 125 professionals and participates in major international genome initiatives and EU-funded projects.
About the Unit and Team
The Sequencing Unit provides highly specialised support in next-generation genomics and plays a key role in the development, optimisation, and implementation of advanced sequencing protocols and technologies.
The Long-read Sequencing team is embedded within the Sequencing Unit and focuses on the development and delivery of long-read sequencing workflows.
About the Project: LUCIA - LUng Cancer-related risk factors and their Impact Assessment
LUCIA is a project funded by the European commission HORIZON-MISS-2021-CANCER-02 Europe Programme (Grant agreement ID: 101096473). It contributes to the EU Mission Cancer along with other projects and researchers across Europe. It brings together a consortium of 20 partners – academia, associations, hospitals, NGOs, research and technological organisations, and industry – led by TECHNION (Israel Institute of Technology), from six EU countries and three associated countries.
Its key aim is to constitute a toolbox for discovering and understanding new risk factors that contribute to lung cancer (LC) development. The toolbox encompasses the analysis of three complementary aspects that feed into each other:
(1) personal risk factors (i.e., a person's exposure to chemical pollutants and behavioral and lifestyle factors),
(2) external risk factors (i.e., urban, built and transport environments, social aspects, and climate), and
(3) the cellular processes (i.e., changes in genetics, epigenetics, metabolism, and ageing)
About the Project: EASI-OMICS - Integrated Multi-Omics Services for Next Generation Biomedical Research
EASI-OMICS is a project funded by the European commission HORIZON-INFRA-2025-01 Europe Programme (Grant agreement ID: 101284500). It brings together a consortium of 7 partners – academia, associations, research and technological organisations – led by CNAG, from four EU countries.
The integration of multi-omics layers -genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics- offers a uniquely comprehensive view of cellular states, regulatory mechanisms, and biological complexity. Advances in sensitivity, resolution, and multimodal approaches are rapidly transforming biomedical research, creating unprecedented opportunities for discovery and clinical translation. However, this potential is still underexploited due to disciplinary silos, highly specialised expertise and infrastructures, rapid technological change, data integration challenges, and unequal access to infrastructures, particularly in widening countries.
The objectives of EASI-OMICS project are:
(1) to provide researchers across Europe with access to state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies and integrated analyses in a highly coordinated fashion.
(2) to train the next generation of researchers in data management, metadata standards, integrative analysis, and innovation.
(3) to establish a robust framework for the management and integration of FAIR-compliant multi-omics datasets.
(4) to bridg the divide between genomics and proteomics to build a translational, strategic, and sustainable foundation for integrated multi-omics research in Europe.
By achieving these goals, EASI-OMICS will place Europe at the global forefront of biomedical multi-omics research and innovation, accelerating the translation of discoveries into science and patient Benefit.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the Long-read Sequencing team manager and the head of the Sequencing Unitcontributing to the development, implementation, optimisation, and execution of sample preparation protocols for sequencing applications.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of samples for sequencing.
- Implementation and optimisation of new protocols.
- Maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of all work performed, including the preparation and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other relevant documentation.
- Identification, documentation, and reporting of protocol deviations, errors, and unexpected results.
- Management of laboratory stock and orders.

Skills/Qualifications
Professional Experience
At least 3 years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology laboratory, particularly in techniques such as PCR, nucleic acid extraction and purification, HMW DNA and RNA extraction, nucleic acid quantification and quality assessment, and gel or capillary electrophoresis.
Must Have
- Excellent laboratory skills, with a strong focus on accuracy, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in commonly used software applications, including MS Office.
- Experience with laboratory automation and instrumentation.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
Nice to Have
- Experience with short-read and long-read sequencing technologies.
- Experience with ultra-high-molecular-weight (uHMW) DNA extraction.
- Experience with NGS workflows and associated laboratory procedures.
- Experience working within a quality management system or an accredited laboratory environment.
- Experience working with automated laboratory workflows and liquid-handling systems.
