Adjunct Librarian Pool

Position Summary

The Los Rios Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position. Adjunct positions are filled as needed through ongoing recruitment. Applicants are contacted and hired year-round based on college needs.

Applicants in this pool will remain active for two years. After two years applicants will receive an email with information on how to remain in the pool.

The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: coordination of library services and/or teaching assigned classes, if assigned, under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member.

Position Salary Information:

Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 1). Typical Duties

Public Services Librarian:

In collaboration with the other librarians, the Public Services Librarian may be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Providing reference and information services to students and staff.
  • Providing library instruction in a variety of settings and formats.
  • Maintaining up-to-date instruction materials for print and on-line library resources.
  • Selecting materials in subject areas for print, media, and digital collections.

The Public Services Librarian may also be involved or take the lead in coordinating one or more of the following:

  • Reference desk scheduling
  • Instructional programs and services
  • Circulation policy and procedures
  • Marketing of library services
  • Assessment of library programs and services
  • Services to the Outreach Centers and Distance Education

Public Services Librarian (Special Collections):

The Public Services Librarian (Special Collections) duties may include, but not limited to:

  • Assisting students, faculty, staff, and outside researchers in accessing the collections.
  • Processing new archival acquisitions, including determining if items meet criteria under the collection development policy for inclusion in the collection.
  • Planning and overseeing digitization projects.
  • Engaging with diverse college-level programs to promote use of the collections.
  • Raising visibility of the collections on various platforms including the college website, marketing materials, and the library discovery platform.
  • Creating finding aids, catalog records, and other access tools using appropriate metadata standards.
  • Ensuring that visitors observe policies and practices pertinent to Special Collections.
  • Recommending changes to existing policies and practices in order to further goals such as preservation, access, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Public Services Librarian (Technical Services):

The Public Services Librarian (Technical Services) duties may include, but not limited to:

  • Cataloging, including description, authority verification, subject headings, and call number assignment of print and non-print materials and web resources not located in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database.
  • Evaluating and edit copy cataloging located in the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database.
  • Authority file maintenance, database cleanup projects, and collection evaluation.
  • Working occasionally at the reference desk may also be required on an as needed basis.
  • Providing reference and information services to students and staff.
  • Providing library instruction to students in a variety of settings and formats.
  • Designing instructional materials.
  • Selecting materials and maintaining an up-to-date collection in subject areas for print, media, and digital collections.
  • Using existing and emerging technologies to enhance library services and instruction.
  • Fostering and developing information competency skills for students.
  • Marketing library resources and programs to students and faculty.
  • Promoting and maintaining an effective learning environment in the library.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The instructional assignment may encompass teaching courses across all levels in this discipline. Specific courses offered may vary by campus. Courses for this assignment may include:

  • LIBR 494 Topics in Library Science

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s in library science, library and information science, OR the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by time of hire.
  2.
