Electric Power Engineering

Objectives

The main drivers behind the research and education in this group are:

• Contribute to solving the new challenges faced by the electric power system: the integration of renewable electricity production, energy-efficient forms of electricity consumption, increasing demand for transport capacity with short lead times.
• Enhancing and maintaining the existing knowledge, even when subjects are temporarily out of fashion.
• Contributing to the knowledge frontier by publishing in world-leading journals and presenting at world-leading conferences.
• Spreading results from the research to non-academic stakeholders, like power industry, and by being a bridge between academia (theory) and industry (practice).

Programme Structure

Research projects include:

• Integrated asset management for lighting in public libraries through digital twins
• Hosting capacity for new production and consumption of northern Sweden's transmission network
• Digital urban development
• Smart asphalts and concrete for wireless charging of electrical vehicles
• Hydrogen, energy system and infrastructure in Northern Scandinavia and Finland − pre-study
• Flexibility pricing and economic incentives on supporting the electricity network
• Methods for estimating the hosting capacity
• Measurement method for frequencies below 150 kHz for approval of railway vehicles
• Sustainable and flexible use of electricity for the future
• Fast track education on electric power engineering

We are not aware of any specific GRE, GMAT or GPA grading score requirements for this programme.

Other requirements

An applicant meets the general entry requirements for doctoral (third-cycle) studies if he or she has been awarded a Master's (second-cycle) qualification, has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle credits, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in another way, in Sweden or elsewhere.

Tuition Fees

EU/EEA Nationals: Free. If you are a citizen of a country within the EU, EEA or Switzerland, you are not required to pay application or tuition fees to study in Sweden.
