LVN Internship
Position Summary
This 12-week LVN Internship at Post Acute Medical at Victoria, LLC is part of the Texas Internship Initiative Grant, offered in partnership with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent and Victoria College. Designed for students in their final semester of the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program, this internship provides hands-on clinical experience in a hospital setting, supporting the development of practical nursing skills under professional supervision.
Interns will work 8 hours per week, depending on department needs and availability. To participate, students must meet Texas Internship Initiative Grant eligibility criteria. Selected interns will receive a stipend from Victoria College to assist with transportation, childcare, and tuition/fees. This opportunity allows nursing students to apply classroom learning in a real-world healthcare environment, preparing them for transition into the workforce.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with basic patient care, including taking vital signs, documenting intake/output, and monitoring patient status.
- Support medication administration under supervision, in accordance with LVN scope of practice.
- Observe and assist with wound care, specimen collection, and routine clinical procedures.
- Practice infection control and patient safety protocols in accordance with hospital standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Assist in maintaining patient records and electronic documentation.
- Participate in team huddles, rounds, and nursing staff meetings as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned by the clinical supervisor.
INTERN LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Apply theoretical nursing knowledge in a supervised clinical setting.
- Develop confidence in basic clinical and patient care skills.
- Understand the workflow and patient care responsibilities in a healthcare environment.
- Practice safe and ethical standards of care.
- Strengthen communication and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational requirements: Currently enrolled in the final semester of the Vocational Nursing Program at Victoria College;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism and patient-centered care;
- Familiarity with standard nursing procedures and terminology;
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a clinical team;
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Selected interns are required to obtain liability insurance prior to their start date. Additional information will be provided to selected students.
GRANT ELIGIBILITY:
To qualify for this grant funded internship opportunity, students must be able to provide the following upon request. This information will be requested when necessary and is not required to complete the online application;
- Proof of income threshold by submitting a 1040 form;
- For male applicants, verification of Selective Service registration.
Physical Demands
The intern must be able to perform physical tasks typical of a hospital environment, including standing, walking, and assisting patients for extended periods. This role may require lifting or repositioning patients and handling medical equipment. Interns must have the dexterity to perform clinical tasks and respond quickly to patient needs or emergencies. The ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in a fast-paced clinical setting is required.
