Mail Clerk I
Job Description Summary
The Mail Clerk is responsible for picking up the University mail daily from the local Post Office. Sorting & delivering mail & packages to the mail stop locations of the University, this includes the main Orange campus, the Rinker Campus & Student mail. Will be working alongside team to scan, track and deliver packages. Assist with University Services copy request. Other duties as assigned.
Mail Service
- Pick up the university mail from the Post Office, daily.
- Sort the mail & parcels from student residents and mail stop locations (departments).
- Cross reference check & deliver student mail using current resident roster.
- Receive all deliveries (Amazon, UPS, FedEx, DHL, freight companies, etc…).
- Transport student mail & packages to the student mail centers (3 locations).
- Deliver to all Mail Stop Locations, daily.
- Provide mail service to the Rinker Campus in Irvine.
- Scan all received items w/ barcodes, to track, all inbound items.
- Add postage to all outgoing USPS mail pieces.
- Handle UPS & FedEx outgoing items.
- Answer phone inquiries. Respond to emails.
Respond to Copy Job Request
- Check and Process Basic Copy requests when needed.
- Deliver completed copy jobs, as needed.
Other duties as assigned
- Train student staff, as needed.
- Maintain department vehicles (ESV’s & Van) to operative condition.
- Order & replace equipment parts to maintain operating condition, if able.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Office).
- Physical ability to lift, carry, move, hold, handle, push, twist, etc. with items weighing upward of 50lbs.
- Experience using the tracking software & hardware.
- Experience using the postage machine.

- Ability to self-initiate and work independently.
- Ability to work alternate schedules and in different weather conditions both indoor and outdoor.
- Ability to work with multiple demands and meet daily schedules.
- Ability to adapt to changes of personnel and mail stop locations, within the university.
- Knowledge of the USPS Postal Regulations.
- Prior work experience within the College/University mail processing & delivery setting.
