Mail Message Services Worker, Levels 1-2 (Provisional) - Multiple Vacancies

General Duties

Provides and supervises mail and related services at a CUNY location. There are two Assignment Levels for this position and all personnel perform related work.

Assignment Level 1

  • Under supervision, receives, sorts, and distributes mail or packages.
  • Loads, unloads, lifts, and moves mail and packages.
  • Prepares, sorts, and labels outgoing mail.
  • Assists in packing and unpacking packages.
  • Picks up and delivers interoffice mail.
  • Inserts letters into envelopes manually or using automated equipment.
  • Computes postage and stamps outgoing mail.
  • Acts as a messenger.
  • May visit Post Office for mail-related business.
  • Operates office machines like copiers and postage meters.
  • Makes scheduled trips and operates motor vehicles if necessary.
  • Reports mechanical defects.
  • Maintains mail directories and records.
  • Uses computer for routine tasks.
  • May function as a lead worker.

Assignment Level 2

  • Supervises and trains staff in mail/messenger operations.
  • Ensures cost-effective mail services.
  • Assigns duties and maintains schedules.
  • Meets deadlines and ensures prompt deliveries.
  • Determines route schedules.
  • Keeps logs of postage material.
  • Prepares invoices and requisitions.
  • Maintains equipment and security.
  • Explains procedural changes.
  • Develops and revises procedures.
  • Corresponds with postal authorities.
  • Coordinates training sessions.
  • Investigates complaints.
  • Prepares budgets.
  • May perform duties of Assignment Level 1.

Campus Specific Information

This position requires on-site presence five days a week.

Minimum Qualifications

A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, plus six months of full-time office experience in mail services. Must communicate in English. A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in New York may be required.

Compensation

Level 1: New Hire: $34,932; Incumbent: $37,840
Level 2: New Hire: $44,627; Incumbent: $50,433
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression for the first 24 months.
