JOB SUMMARY: This position supports the building maintenance program to ensure buildings on campus are maintained in a safe and attractive manner year round. This position will provide general carpentry support to campus buildings and customers.
Employment Type: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Benefits-Eligible, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Pay Range: $20-$25
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform general carpentry work and installation involved in any repair and remodel needs for all campus buildings and do so in an effective and efficient manner
- Conduct general painting and repair work involved in building, remodeling and repairing all campus buildings, furnishings and equipment
- Collaborate with Lead Carpenter on daily work orders to ensure the completion of assigned projects
- Prepare cost estimates and make recommendations for appropriate levels of quality based on anticipated useful life
- Apply systematic program for repairs, replacements, re-key process, and carpentry related needs across campus
- Operate and maintain equipment and tools to ensure that it is kept in good working order and is used safely to accomplish assigned tasks
- Assist other departments within Facilities and provide back-up to the Set-Up Operations Coordinator, when needed
- Expand technical abilities by attending training courses and seminars, when available, and remain open to changing job responsibilities and procedures to maintain a high level of task completion and performance
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment according to OSHA standards in order to minimize safety hazards and accidents
- Attend training courses on OSHA right to know, fire extinguish use and other safety related matters
- All other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3+ years general painting, wall covering, wood and metal finishing, and drywall surface finishing
- Ability to recognize and apply proper procedures to decorate and protect all types of surfaces (wood, steel, concrete, brick, plaster, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in use and safety requirements for rigging, sand blasting and painting equipment and supplies
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to operate heavy equipment on an emergency back-up basis for snow removal and on an occasional basis for unloading freight
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Required to enter private areas such as student dorms and bathrooms
- Exposure to outside weather conditions year-round
- Exposure to petroleum based chemicals such as solvents, finishes, adhesives, lubricants, and cleaners
- Exposure to dust and noise (75% of time)
- Operates hazardous equipment
- Regular duties involve moderate to heavy physical effort
- Works on ladders and scaffolds, with a maximum height of up to 60 feet
- Provide on-call support and services for campus impacted weather conditions, as needed
- Overtime may be necessary at various times throughout the year
