Job Summary
The University Guest House & Conference Center is seeking a part-time Facilities/Maintenance Technician I to join our Facilities team. As the hotel and conference center on the University of Utah campus, we are committed to providing exceptional guest experiences through safe, reliable, and well-maintained facilities.
This entry-level maintenance position assists with basic repairs, preventative maintenance, room preparation, inspections, and general upkeep in guest rooms, public spaces, conference facilities, and other areas managed by the University Guest House & Conference Center. No previous maintenance experience is required. Training will be provided in departmental procedures, safe tool use, basic maintenance tasks, and the proper handling and escalation of maintenance concerns.
The Facilities/Maintenance Technician I performs basic maintenance and repair tasks under the direction of a supervisor or an experienced technician. Assignments may include painting, minor repairs, replacing basic hardware and fixtures, moving supplies and equipment, assisting with preventative maintenance, and maintaining clean and organized work areas. The position is expected to follow established procedures, complete assigned work safely, and seek guidance when an issue requires additional technical knowledge or experience.
Because this position provides direct evening, weekend, and holiday support to hotel guests and employees, the successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication, guest-relations, and problem-solving skills. The employee must be able to respond calmly and professionally to guest concerns, evaluate routine issues, take appropriate action within their training, and promptly communicate or escalate concerns when additional assistance is needed.
The position regularly works with maintenance team members, Guest House employees, and guests to help ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and guest-ready. Candidates should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team while managing assigned tasks independently after receiving appropriate training.
Flexibility is essential. Work schedules may vary based on hotel occupancy, conference activity, special events, and departmental needs, with shifts primarily scheduled during evenings, weekends, and holidays
