Maintenance Helper
The Housing Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to support the operation and upkeep of University Housing facilities. The position ensures that building systems, equipment, and furnishings remain safe, clean, and functional to provide a high-quality living environment for residents.
This is an entry-level position that requires foundational knowledge in multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and general building maintenance. The incumbent works independently or as part of a team to perform preventive maintenance, respond to service requests, and assist in maintaining compliance with applicable safety and building codes.
Responsibilities
- Performs general maintenance and repairs on housing facilities, equipment, and furnishings.
- Assists in the installation, repair, and upkeep of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry systems.
- Conducts regular inspections of assigned areas to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Completes work orders and preventive maintenance tasks in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintains tools, materials, and equipment in good working condition.
- Ensures compliance with university safety standards, procedures, and applicable codes.
- Provides excellent customer service to residents and university staff.
- Maintenance techs participate in after-hours or emergency on-call rotations.
