Appointments are hired at the first step of the range. The second step is paid after the first year of satisfactory service with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum sixth step.

5 days per week, 8 hours per day
Monday through Friday (5:30am – 2:00pm)

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – GROUNDS
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs a wide range of skilled grounds maintenance duties, such as mowing, sweeping, trenching, planting, weeding, irrigating, and pruning; performs difficult and specialized duties such as maintaining undeveloped and rugged terrain, planning and preparing fire breaks, and removing snow; installs and maintains irrigation systems, including drip and other nontraditional systems necessary for uneven terrain; applies herbicides and pesticides; operates a variety of specialized grounds maintenance equipment, including snow removal equipment; may coordinate and perform light construction projects related to the development of an outdoor area for public use; prepare athletic fields, multi-purpose sports complex, grounds and parking lots for scheduled events and performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the full working level class of the Grounds Maintenance Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Incumbents in this class perform specialized grounds maintenance duties in support of college programs, athletics fields, and childcare facilities. Duties may include standard activities such as mowing and edging large lawn areas and athletic fields, weeding planted areas, pruning trees and shrubs, maintaining sprinkler systems, and spraying herbicides and pesticides. Incumbents also perform the most difficult grounds maintenance duties, prepare multi-purpose sports complex, grounds and parking lots for scheduled events Specialized duties may include the maintenance of athletic fields, childcare facilities, undeveloped and rugged terrain, the planning and preparation of fire breaks, the removal of snow, and the installation of drip and other non-traditional irrigation systems. Incumbents may also coordinate and perform light construction projects related to the development of an outdoor area for public use. This class can be distinguished from the lower-level class of Grounds Maintenance Technician because that class is the journey level where incumbents perform the full range of standard grounds maintenance duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Incumbents in this class work under the direction of a manager, working alone on routine or regular work assignments and checking in with the lead or supervisor on non-routine assignments or when in doubt as to the correct procedure to follow. An incumbent in this class does not directly supervise other full-time employees.
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs a wide range of semi-skilled trades duties involving the maintenance, repair and construction of school facilities, offices and large buildings; performs basic and broad support for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, HVAC and other services; operates a variety of hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner; and performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the second working level class in the Maintenance Support Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Incumbents in this class perform semi-skilled duties in support of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, HVAC and other services. Incumbents function as generalists, performing semi-skilled duties that emphasize preventive maintenance and require a basic and general knowledge multiple trade areas, but do not require advanced-level skills in any single area. This class can be distinguished from the lower-level Maintenance Assistant class because incumbents in that class primarily perform general facility support duties (such as moving furniture and setting up for events) and also perform routine and unskilled maintenance and repair duties. This class can also be distinguished from the higher-level Maintenance Specialist classes because incumbents in those classes perform the full range of skilled duties required in a specialized maintenance trade area such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, or HVAC technology.

- Experience: Three years performing grounds maintenance duties that required the operation of large grounds equipment, tree trimming and repair, and the repair/maintenance of irrigations systems. Some experience maintaining large areas of undeveloped terrain is preferred.
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Education and Experience:
- Education: Possession of a High School diploma or GED.
- Experience: Two years performing basic maintenance duties in support of one or more skilled trade area such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, locksmith, welding, and/or HVAC.

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – GROUNDS
Essential Duties:
- Plans, a variety of grounds keeping and maintenance duties involving a wide range of campus facilities; performs complex grounds maintenance duties including those related to the maintenance of athletic fields, childcare facilities, large areas of undeveloped and rugged terrain.
- Assist Athletics with heavy set-ups for overtime events.
- Prepare, maintain, and paint athletic fields. Monitor the condition of athletic fields to ensure quality.
- Program and control athletic field line marking equipment.
- Smoothes and levels athletic fields.
- Assists with light construction projects related to the development of an outdoor area for public use; clears brush and trees; levels and paves area.
- Installs/repairs landscape pipes and control valves, fittings and a variety of landscape devices.
- Evaluates fire risks in undeveloped areas; plans and prepares fire breaks to minimize fire spread; digs trenches and clears vegetation.
- Operates snow removal equipment; monitors snow loads and implements mitigation efforts to minimize damage to plants and outdoor landscaping; considers snow tolerance when choosing and planting new vegetation.
