Maintenance Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position performs a wide range of maintenance duties to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment and performs related work as required in and around university facilities. Troubleshoots, performs minor repairs, and responds to emergency service calls; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of university events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the University's maintenance needs; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Maintenance Work:

  • Performs a wide variety of general and semi-skilled maintenance activities (e.g., carpentry, painting, electrical) for completing projects within established time frames.
  • Removes trash in accordance with established procedures.
  • Cleans and preserves a variety of surfaces, using a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations.
  • Handles and disposes of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens with care.
  • May require heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and roof work frequently.

Maintenance Requests:

  • Receives, processes, and resolves requests for routine maintenance needs.
  • Schedules, coordinates, directs, and performs routine and comprehensive maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Responds to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities; manages/produces a calendar for routine maintenance (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Landscaping).
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.

Machinery:

Operates power equipment, including forklifts, carpet extractors, pressure washers, hand and power tools, and campus vehicles.

Inventory:

  • Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a high school diploma or GED; any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Vocational or technical training/degree.
  • Experience in managing facility, vehicle, and equipment maintenance programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general safety protocol (OSHA) when operating/maintaining University equipment (food service equipment, vehicles, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work under inclement weather conditions, and in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, occasional overtime, on-call work, or emergency work on campus (including weekends and evenings) may be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY:

$19.23 - $20.29 ($40,000 - $42,200), commensurate with experience.
