Description:
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Maker Space Director provides a learning environment where students, faculty, and staff can develop new opportunities at the intersection of art, design, and technology. The expectation for the applicant would be to continue a culture of innovation while fostering an inclusive environment where students and faculty will have opportunities to work on and display their creative and scholarly work.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversees the daily operations of the Maker Space while maintaining lab safety protocols.
- Operates and maintains all equipment, while also overseeing its usage.
- Purchases materials and new equipment for the Maker Space.
- Provides proper safety and operational training to faculty, students, and staff for the safe operation of equipment and use of the Maker Space.
- Assists faculty during class use of the Maker Space, including workshops on equipment best practices.
- Troubleshoots student and faculty projects.
- Develops and runs demonstrations and hands-on activities for various groups, including middle and high school students.
- Provides outsourcing services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or Architecture required.
- Two years of previous experience in a Maker Space/Fabrication Lab environment.
- Experience with 3D Printers (such as Bambu Lab and Stratasys printers), CNC Machines (such as Tormach machines), and standard shop tools (lathe, drill press, etc.)
- Experience with technical drawing software (such as AutoCAD) and the Microsoft 365 software suite.
- Strong oral, written, and graphical communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a STEM field or Architecture, preferred.
