Makerspace Technician (Technical Expert 3)
Overview
The Makerspace is seeking a qualified technician to assist students and answer questions during class projects and labs about equipment usage. The students will work on equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons, and hand tools. The technician will be responsible for distributing, maintaining and repairing the equipment for the Makerspace.
Minimum Qualifications
An equivalent of an AA from an accredited college or industry recognized certifications in any of the following: electrical, electronics, manufacturing, carpentry or a related field AND 2 years of industry experience in electrical, mechanical, or related maintenance and repair work OR 4 years of industry experience in electrical, mechanical, or related maintenance and repair work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair equipment
- Assist students with operating equipment
- Introduce students to the space and train students on any safety hazards
- Supervise students use of equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a community college or high school setting with students.
- Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, and soldering.
- Experience working with policies and procedures relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and accessibility preferably in a minority serving institution such as Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI); OR Experience with participation in programs relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and accessibility preferably in a minority serving institution such as Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).
