Posting Description
MAKING AND DESIGN COORDINATOR, Museum, develops, facilitates, and leads museum education programs for our visitors. The work spans many audiences and program types, including leading programming for our ‘drop-in’ activities, teaching student workshops, facilitating gallery experiences for adult and family visitors, and supporting our teen program. The coordinator will develop new educational programming in accordance with best practices and will apply teaching experience best practices to engage professionally with middle and high school students, adults, and general visitors. The coordinator will work with museum staff and outside partners to develop and implement educational programming with an emphasis on hands-on and creative learning.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Undergraduate degree in education or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) field; a minimum of two years’ experience teaching in a formal or informal setting; experience with fabrication or design, ideally in an educational setting; demonstrated commitment to pursuing equitable access to STEAM for all and to working in an ever-changing, public-facing museum environment; experience with program development, and familiarity with best practices around designing learning for accessibility and for a variety of audiences; ability to communicate effectively with MIT faculty, staff and students, as well as visitors of all ages and the youth and volunteers; excellent attention to detail while prioritizing safety, educational engagement, and service to our guests; and demonstrated experience and comfort using new technologies, tools, and laboratory equipment. PREFERRED: Master’s degree; familiarity with audience evaluation techniques; bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Japanese or Mandarin. Experience working in a maker space, and experience with laser cutters, 3D printers, and associated software; and experience providing feedback/training to educators.
Should be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
Must be able to work a schedule that regularly includes one weekend day (ie: Tuesday-Saturday, or Sunday-Monday) and occasional holidays and evenings.
