Position Description
Employees in this classification travel as required providing a wide variety of patient care activities in a correctional facility. They function within their legal scope of practice and by the policies and procedures of the organization and practice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients

Major/Essential Functions
Clinical Operations:
- Provides safe, timely, and appropriate nursing care to incarcerated patients across assigned correctional facilities in accordance with scope of practice, standing orders, and direction.
- Completes ≥95% of assigned medication administration, treatment delivery, patient assessments, and sick call activities.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Completes required clinical documentation in the electronic health record within the same shift for ≥95% of encounters, meeting organizational and regulatory documentation standards.
- Maintains compliance with correctional health standards, and regulatory requirements, with timely correction of identified deficiencies.
Virtual Nursing and Telehealth Support:
- Provides virtual nursing services as assigned, including patient triage, follow-up care, education, and coordination under established protocols.
- Ensures professional communication, privacy compliance, and timely escalation of clinical concerns.
- Responds to assigned virtual nursing encounters within established service timeframes for ≥95% of cases.
Care Coordination and Team Collaboration:
- Collaborates effectively with providers, clinical staff, custody staff, and administrative teams to support continuity of care within the correctional settings.
- Communicates patient care needs and follow-up requirements to appropriate team members within one business day, or sooner as indicated, in ≥95% of applicable situations.
Administrative Support and Clinical Development:
- Supports Nurse Educator and Associate Director with clinically related administrative and developmental tasks. Delivers assigned work products accurately and within agreed deadlines in ≥95% of assignments.
Travel and Site Support:
- Travels between assigned correctional facilities as scheduled. Arrives prepared and on time, adapts to varying facility workflows, and maintains professional conduct while representing the organization positively at all sites. Arrives at assigned facilities as scheduled and ready to work for ≥98% of scheduled shifts.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Completes assigned duties outside of routine responsibilities within established timelines and in line with organizational standards in ≥95% of assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in correctional health care, detention facilities, or other highly structured or secure healthcare environments.
- Experience supporting multiple clinical sites or travel-based nursing roles.
- Exposure to virtual nursing, telehealth workflows, or remote care coordination.
- Experience assisting with clinical process improvement, standing orders, or staff education under nursing leadership.

Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer the license to Texas by start date, and 5 years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse.
