Manager - Academic Support Centers
General Function:
Responsible for the efficient management, planning and coordination of the Academic Support Center (ASC), contributing to the overall College mission of student success. The ASC includes the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Developmental Math Center, Supplemental Instruction, Success Services and the Anatomy Study Room. This role also provides leadership support for growth of the supplemental instruction program and community tutoring services, and collaborates with faculty and staff in Advising, Access and Disability Services (ADS), the SOAR+ Student Success Program, the Women's Program and Starfish as well as other College-wide student success initiatives.

Characteristic Duties:
- Manages all operations and activities of the Academic Support Center within the Resources for Learning (RFL) Division, providing strong, comprehensive, and collaborative leadership.
- Provides leadership support to the Assistant Manager to aid in Supplemental Instruction (SI) outreach efforts to faculty, and assists with training of SI student leaders, coordination of SI data collection and analysis.
- Supervises and directs all personnel matters for the Academic Support Center including recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation.
- Works with Assistant Manager and ASC Lead Personnel to effectively develop Center's staff schedules to meet student needs and improve learning.
- Collaborates with Academic Support Center's assistant manager in managing the varied employee schedules and timesheet/payroll processes.
- Administers and provides responsible stewardship of all resources including budget, facilities and grants.
- Develops and monitors operating policies and procedures for all program areas, reviews them regularly and revises as needed in collaboration with appropriate ASC Lead Personnel.
- Represents the Academic Support Center within both internal and external College offices/departments to promote Academic Support Center's services.
- Provides leadership in research and adoption of best practices for Academic Support Center's operations.
- Establishes and proactively maintains collaborative and effective relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators to ensure efficacy of student success programs aligned with the College's strategic and operational goals.
- Provides day-to-day direction to the Assistant Manager, lead tutors, and specialists by coordinating workflows, setting expectations, and guiding the implementation of best practices to ensure effective and consistent Academic Support Center operations.
- Stays current on research, best practices and new academic support practices worth exploring and adopting in helping students succeed.
- Implements and directs processes to address concerns with input from appropriate ASC Lead Personnel where appropriate.
- Directs and manages data collection, analysis and reporting to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness, program vitality and timely submission of required reports.
- Submits Academic Support Center data to Institutional Research and shares reports with the Division Dean and all other stakeholders.
- Leads the development and delivery of comprehensive training and professional development for all personnel in the Academic Support Center, including tutors, specialists and supplemental instruction leaders utilizing current pedagogical practices; coordinates with the Assistant Manager where appropriate.
- Coordinates with Assistant Manager, lead tutors and specialists to plan for and prepare appropriate reports for program assessment and accountability including program review, ICCB, and HLC.
- Actively promotes the Academic Support Center's' services to the College Community through established institutional communication channels.
- Addresses all student and employee behavior in a professional, confidential, and respectful manner.
- Leads ongoing Community Tutoring program development by identifying needs, implementing improvements, and working with ASC staff to expand and strengthen services.
- Serves as a liaison with IT to address the Academic Support Center's hardware, software and network needs and issues.
- Participates in local and national professional development conferences and workshops.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature.
Equipment/Tools Used
Utilizes standard office and classroom equipment, including computers and advanced calculators.
Supervision
Works under the direct supervision of the RFL Dean. Directly supervises all ASC full-time regular professional staff, the full-time and the part-time classified employees, and other ASC staff in coordination with the Assistant Manager.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in either Education or related academic discipline required.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in tutoring, academic support services, or a related field, with demonstrated progressive responsibility. Proven ability to support student success initiatives, coordinate services, and collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and diverse student populations. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required.
