Job Summary
This position serves as the subject matter expert on disability
management, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), California
Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Family and Medical Leave
Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), workplace
accommodations, return-to-work programs, and related employment
compliance matters for Academic Employees. Reporting to the
Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations , the Manager
provides strategic oversight and leadership for complex
accommodation, disability, and leave matters affecting faculty,
academic management and Unit 11 student employees. The successful
candidate will partner with leaders to develop innovative, legally
compliant, and employee-centered solutions that support academic
employee success, workplace inclusion, and operational
effectiveness.
This role offers an opportunity to shape and enhance disability
management and accommodation and leaves programs for Academic
Employees at one of the nation's largest and most diverse public
universities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as Faculty Affairs lead administrator, subject matter
expert, and primary point of contact for workplace accommodations,
disability management, and return-to-work programs for faculty,
Unit 11 employees, and Academic Administrators.
SLeave Administration and Compliance for Academic Employees.
Provides strategic oversight and administration of academic
employee leave programs and ensures compliance with federal and
state laws, collective bargaining agreements, CSU policies, and
university procedures.
Employee Relations Consultation and Complex Case Management.
Provides consultation and support to Academic Affairs leadership on
employee relations matters involving accommodations, disability
management, leaves of absence, performance management, workplace
conduct, and labor relations concerns.
Training, Policy Development, Reporting and Program
Improvement.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and
qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal
equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
- Hiring Range: The hiring range for this
position is $6,907 - $8,000 per month commensurate with candidate's
education, experience, skills, and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate possesses thorough knowledge of general human
resources practices, campus policies, and leave‑related laws
including FMLA, CFRA, and other applicable regulations, along with
a solid understanding of ADA workplace accommodations. They
demonstrate strong organizational, project management, and
problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities and respond promptly to requests for guidance.
Experience with HR enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft is
essential, as is the ability to read and interpret collective
bargaining agreements to ensure program compliance and properly
resolve or escalate issues. The candidate excels in both written
and verbal communication, using strong grammar, spelling, and
punctuation skills to produce clear training, guides, and employee
or manager communications. They are detail‑oriented, able to
prioritize effectively, and consistently follow all university
policies, procedures, and guidelines, including those related to
safety, civility, and information practices.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse
campus community. Ability to follow all university policies,
procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety,
civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and
procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university
experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the
university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration,
Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Law, Healthcare
Administration, or a related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience administering
disability management, ADA accommodations, employee leaves,
employee relations, return-to-work programs, or related human
resources functions.
• Demonstrated expertise in ADA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, PWFA, disability
management, and workplace accommodation processes.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive employee cases
requiring independent judgment and discretion.
• Ability to interpret and apply employment laws, regulations,
policies, and collective bargaining provisions.
• Excellent consultation, communication, problem-solving, and
relationship-management skills.

Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking

Additional Information
