oversight, and collaboration across campus, the Custodial Manager
helps ensure that university facilities consistently meet high

Custodial Manager serves as a key partner in responding to facility
needs, special events, and campus priorities. Working within a

Summary of Responsibilities
- Directs the custodial staff in the correct performance of
duties. Hires and ensures the training of full-time custodial
staff. Manages the custodial staff emphasizing safety, security,
good public relations, and following departmental custodial
procedures.
Evaluates staff performance and provides progressive
discipline. Evaluates procedures, labor distribution, supply usage,
performance, and results.
Directs equipment repair, vehicle upkeep, furniture set-ups and
moves, lighting replacement, and reporting of maintenance needs to
include furniture replacement.
Manages and controls budget, purchasing, billing, cost
analysis, testing, labor costs, and other budget requirements.
Coordinates supply chemical and equipment testing; analyzes
results and upgrades as necessary. Understands and uses computers,
custodial equipment, and other equipment necessary to complete
duties.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree
plus three to five years of related experience, including two years
of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of
education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties
totaling at least seven years.
For example:
- Bachelor's degree + 3 years of related experience, including 2
years of supervision.
- OR Bachelor's degree + 5 years of related experience, including
2 years of supervision.
- OR Associate's degree + 5 years of related experience + 2 years
of supervisory experience (7+ years total).
- OR 7 years of progressively responsible related experience,
including supervisory experience, in place of a bachelor's
degree.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of custodial practices, machinery, and related
equipment.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and
inventory control.
- Working knowledge of floor care, chemical usage, safety, and
general custodial techniques.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing,
prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety
procedures.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
