About the opportunity

Do you want to shape the University of Sydney's global research partnerships and research reputation?

The University of Sydney is seeking a Manager, Global Research Engagement to play a pivotal role in advancing our international engagement strategy. Reporting to the Director, Global Research Engagement, and working closely with the Manager, Global Research Partnerships and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global and Research Engagement), this role contributes to building strategic international partnerships, enhancing the University's global reputation and rankings, and developing regional engagement to foster impactful research collaborations.

The Manager will also oversee several key international engagement portfolios, including official visits and protocol and University participation in global networks (such as APRU and U21.) You will join a highly collegial, supportive and inclusive team, and provide leadership that fosters collaboration, trust and professionalism. This is a dynamic opportunity for a leader with a strong research background and international engagement expertise to strengthen the University's presence on the domestic and global stage.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• support the development and implementation of the University's international partnership strategy
• build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and international stakeholders to drive impactful collaboration
• coordinate and report on international reputation and rankings, ensuring alignment with the University's strategic goals
• provide leadership in planning and delivering official visits, events, and global network participation
• contribute to international engagement initiatives that support cross-cultural collaboration and build institutional profile
• manage, coach, and develop a team of professional staff to deliver high-quality outcomes

About you

• proven experience in supervising, mentoring, and managing staff performance
• postgraduate qualifications with a research background are essential
• demonstrated experience in international diplomacy, protocol, or higher education engagement
• proven ability to translate strategic objectives into operational practices and measurable outcomes
• well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing skills with discretion and diplomacy
• demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, with excellent organisational and analytical skills
• an understanding of international higher education and well-developed cultural competence
• proven capacity to identify opportunities for international collaboration and funding, supported by effective research and analysis.
