Manager, Laboratory

Job Summary

Position Description: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Manager to join the newly established Sinha Lab in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Utah. This is a unique opportunity to help build a lab from the ground up and play an active role in shaping its culture.

Research Description:

Our laboratory is focused on studying key aspects of protein synthesis and translational control in healthy and diseased states. We broadly investigate (1) the role of ribosomes as critical sensors of cellular stress and (2) focus on identifying and characterizing ribosome-mediated quality control and signaling pathways that regulate cellular homeostasis and cell fate decisions during translational stress. The dysregulation of these critical surveillance pathways leads to ribosome impairment and breakdown of proteostasis, and has been associated with cancer, aging, and various metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders.

Interested applicants should include a brief statement (1-2 paragraphs) explaining their motivation for applying and how their skills, experience, and research interests aligns with our research focus and the requirements of this role. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on scientific work and the organizational side of research - managing workflows, maintaining structure, and enabling others to succeed. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator to set up the lab, support daily operations, and contribute to ongoing projects.

As a new lab, we are committed to fostering a dynamic, collaborative, and scientifically rigorous environment. We welcome curiosity-driven individuals excited to make foundational discoveries aimed at understanding and combating cancer.

    • Assist with ongoing experiments led by other lab members, with training provided where needed. Collaborate with Principal Investigator in investigating and developing techniques and document all new techniques developed in the laboratory.
    • Set up and assist with research protocols and experiments under the general guidance of the principal investigator; may have primary responsibility for independently setting up, performing and troubleshooting less complex experiments.
    • Observe experimental results in progress and maintain written records of activities and observations; apply previous experience to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  3. Data Collection & Analysis
    • Collect, organize, and document data using electronic lab notebooks.
    • Report experimental results to the principal investigator and prepare appropriate and understandable representations of data such as graphs, charts, statistical summaries, etc.
    • Conduct literature searches to assist in establishing new laboratory techniques.
  4. Collaborative & Administrative Tasks
    • Provide operational support to lab members and contribute to the smooth coordination of projects.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional safety and operational guidelines.
