As a direct report to the Director of Title IX and Equity Compliance, the Manager of Accessibility Services ensures compliance with ADA/ADAAA and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act administers a university-wide disability services program. This position is located in Bridgeport, CT.

Accessibility Services Function

The Manager of Accessibility Services will:

  • Review disability documentation of self-identified students and employees to substantiate requests and determine eligibility for services and reasonable accommodations.
  • Assess the interaction of the individual's disability with the academic or employment environment and develop a plan for the provision of reasonable accommodations to facilitate equitable opportunities.
  • Manage a caseload of students and employees with self-identified disabilities to support academic, employment, and personal success.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records; track ongoing cases, statistical data, and recurrent cases and follow-up with students and employees.
  • Maintain current knowledge of assistive technologies, assessing their level of effectiveness, and implementing these technologies, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Housing & Residential Life in the implementation of housing accommodations, including emotional support and service animals.
  • Assist with university-wide education, training, and outreach programming related to disability services.
  • Perform additional disability-related duties as assigned by the Director of Title IX and Equity Compliance.
  • Some evening and weekend hours required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to interpret and understand medical and psychological information and determine appropriate services and reasonable accommodations based on provided documentation
  • Ability to formulate and implement policies and procedures dealing with issues of disability on a university campus
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and articulate appropriate resolutions to situations
  • Knowledge of emerging issues and trends
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to university students and employees with disabilities
  • Ability to interpret university policies, federal and state laws relating to disabilities in higher education
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, across units, and to manage change
  • Ability to strategically plan, develop and evaluate campus-wide programs serving the University community
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively
  • Awareness and knowledge of assistive computing technology
  • Knowledge of appropriate accommodations, course modification, course substitution for completing degree requirements, accessibility to the classrooms and meeting places, and providing course materials in alternative formats to students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of appropriate accommodations in an employment setting
  • General advising/counseling skills
  • General knowledge of principles and practices of personnel and fiscal management
  • Commitment and sensitivity to and working in a supportive environment with individuals of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Position Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of progressive responsibilities working with persons with disabilities in higher education.
  • Experience working with ADA/ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, FERPA, or other regulations that govern the work.
  • Case management experience.
