Your next career opportunity

As the Manager - Research Grants (Health and Medical), you'll play a pivotal role in increasing the level and diversity of external research funding for the University of Melbourne. You will have the opportunity to partner and collaborate within the research sector, providing operational support for grant applications to major funding bodies like the National Health and Medical Research Council, MRFF and other Australian health and medical research funders. Leading a team, you will oversee workflow, relationship management, and provide specialist advice on research grants and contract management, directly contributing to the University's research excellence.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Manage Pre-Award Planning: Collaborating with Faculties and external funding agencies, oversee the review, submission, and acceptance of grants.
  • Lead Grant Support Initiatives: Work closely with Chancellery, Faculties, post-award grants, contracts, and finance teams to ensure seamless grant support across all schemes.
  • Build Strategic Relationships: Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including major research universities and funding agencies.
  • Provide Expert Advice: Offer high-level advice on funders and compliance to senior management, contributing to strategic decision-making.

You are a passionate leader with a strong focus on supporting research and continuous improvement, possessing expert knowledge in research grant funding and proven experience in managing complex service-oriented programs in large research organisations.

You may also

  • Have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline with extensive experience in research grants administration.
  • Possess outstanding problem-solving and judgement skills within a multidisciplinary university environment.
  • Exhibit strong planning and organisation skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Have the ability to develop extensive relationships and influence key outcomes in a complex matrix structures

Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) is a specialist team dedicated to enabling the University's research and innovation mission working closely with our academic and professional colleagues, industry partners, funding, and government agencies.
