Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Manager, Strategic Planning and Investment to join , Chancellery Division.

The Manager, Strategic Planning and Investment is a senior individual contributor within Strategic Planning and Performance who plays a lead role in delivering QUT’s strategy, investment and planning processes. The position partners with senior leaders to run the end?to?end strategy cycle, builds and curates the fact base and insights that inform strategic choices, and sets business case standards for major investments. The role also ensures portfolio?wide transparency, prioritisation and decision support across QUT’s program of major investments, working closely with FBS and ePMO to align strategy, resources, capacity and delivery.

The Strategy and Investment Portfolio brings together the Office of the Vice-President Strategy and Investment (VPS&I), Strategic Planning and Performance (SPP), Finance Business Solutions (FBS), and Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (ePMO). 

Within this portfolio, SPP leads institution-wide planning, performance analysis and strategic investment processes that underpin QUT’s academic and financial sustainability, including student load planning, executive analytics and business case support..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, finance, data science, public policy). 
  2. Strong conceptual and analytical problem-solving capability with a proven ability to navigate ambiguity, frame complex, cross-portfolio problems and deliver practical, high-impact solutions. 
  3. Demonstrated experience leading strategy, embedding and operationalising strategic alignment and benefits within planning and/or investment governance in complex organisations – including monitoring and educating stakeholders around business case standards, validating and interpreting portfolio reporting, and Executive decision support. 
  4. Demonstrated highly developed financial modelling capability, including driver-based forecasting, scenario analysis and valuations (NPV/IRR/cashflow); experience building and maintaining enterprise-grade models. 
  5. Advanced analytics capability and comfort working with large data sets; proficiency with Excel and BI tools (e.g., Power BI); Python skills desirable for model automation/quality assurance.
  6. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to synthesis analysis into clear narratives and to influence senior stakeholders (ELT, Deans, Divisions leaders) without formal authority.
