Job Description Summary
This position serves as the manager in the Truck Driving area; coordinating and supervising driver trainers while managing key department activities. This position is responsible for all driver trainer activities.
Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate full & part time/temporary driver trainer support staff.
- Monitor and facilitate operations in key department activities and functions such as Truck Driving Contract Training customer service, WDDC, equipment allocation and dispatch, and DOT & CDL Examiner training.
- Distribute work assignments to driver trainer support staff as necessary based on workload.
- Support Truck Driving Contract Training by assigning driver trainer support staff based on workflow, available schedules, and needs of customers.
- Support industry/customer linkages related to Truck Driving Contract Training.
- Assist instructional leadership and BIS leadership in cost estimating for contracted services and materials to internal and external customers.
- Manage driver trainer support staff PTO calendar.
- Assist instructional leadership with hiring and onboarding of Truck Driving faculty.
- Lead hiring and onboarding processes of driver trainer support staff.
- Assist instructional leader with planning, developing, and managing Truck Driving program budgets.
- Assist division leadership team in conducting annual operational planning (prioritization, implementation and evaluation) in areas such as facilities, computer/simulator technology, Truck & Trailer equipment, etc.
- Comply with all regulatory requirements of local, state, and federal agencies in operational or training capacities. Including, but not limited to, FMCSA Clearing House Queries and FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Screening notifications and facilitation.
- Collaborate with assigned Truck Driving Staff to schedule student road evaluations.
- Collaborate with assigned Truck Driving Staff to schedule Third-Party road tests.
- Comply with all regulatory requirements of local, state, and federal agencies in operational or training capacities.
Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Participate in advisory committees for Truck Driving and Diesel programs.
- Assist with career days, open house, tours, youth camps, and other College marketing efforts.
- Represent FVTC at industry association meetings.
- Collaborate with facilities department and other Transportation Center department leaders to support snow removal during winter months.
- Collaborate with facilities department and Fleet Manager to support painting of traffic lines on Truck Driving/WDDC driving ranges.
- Collaborate with Fleet Manager and other Transportation Center department leaders to support resources to assist other areas of the College as requested.
- Perform other assignments as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Associate Degree or higher degree from an accredited institution in related field, AND
- Five years of related logistics industry experience
- Team leadership experience preferred
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid driver's license and ability/qualifications to operate a commercial motor vehicle is preferred.

Work Environment
- Work must be completed in person.
- Remote/virtual work options available on an exception basis.
- Final schedule TBD by position candidate and supervisor.
Work environment may change based upon college needs.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting or standing: This role requires extended periods of sitting or standing while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.
- Mobility: While much of the work is desk-based, occasional mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace.
- Climbing: Capability to climb stairs or ladders, to access commercial motor vehicles.
- Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means.
- Travel: Leadership position may require off-site supervision, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.
- Driving/Operational: Valid driver's license and ability/qualifications to operate a commercial motor vehicle is preferred.
